Homework
St. Catherine Students
For your science Fair project, try the following:
1. Research on the Internet, in magazines, and in books anything you can
find on your topic. Write a bibliography card for each source putting the
author's name, the article (or book) title, the magazine name (if article),
the date, and the publisher. Also include the page numbers.
2. As you do your research, write up notes on large index cards. Put
only one topic on a card. That way you can arrange all similar topics from
different sources by arranging the cards. You can do it on paper as well and
keep them in a notebook, but remember to put only one topic on a page so you
can arrange them later. Be sure to "code" your notes to your bibliography
cards. To "code" you can use the author's last name, or alphabet letters or
numbers or symbols or colors - whatever you want.
3. Decide on a project that allows you actually to test something. You
will need to write down exactly what you are going to do, what equipment you
will need, and what you will
test (independent variable) and what you expect
(dependent variable).
4. The Science Workbook is now posted under the Menu Link "Science Fair."
If you have this much done by the end of October, you would be in great
shape. Ir you have it done by Thanksgiving, it's okay. That will give you
two months for experimenting. Keep in mind that if you are growing plants
etc. you'd better start now! Also anyone who is working with pathogens
(germs) needs to have special permission. Please contact me.
