PROCESS WRITING HINTS
1. Never just sit down and write a draft of a paper.
2. Always plan, draft and finalize by using the steps of process writing: Prewriting,
Drafting, Revising and Evaluating, Proofreading.
3. Always make a simple plan no matter how short the work. Longer compositions will
require more detailed outlines.
4. Final drafts should be typed, printed, or written in script with pen on paper following
the rules for format.
5. Hand in all work on time!
6. Follow the 20 minutes a day approach for all writing. Don't skip days!
7. Think about your assigned topic even when you aren't actually writing - as you go
from class to class, on the ride home, during dinner, whenever. Your thoughts will
start to formulate into a plan before you even take up a pen or pencil. This is part of
the Prewriting step.
8. Always try to write rough drafts on every other line or triple spaced if printing. This
gives you plenty of room for revision and saves time in copying over.
9. Always revise at least twice, more if you can. Remember to print out each draft if
using a printer!
10. Parents and older siblings are good sounding boards for sharing and help, but
make sure the writing is yours!
