STUDY RULES

1. Don't dawdle. Work steadily on each assignment until it is done. Promise

yourself a short break or a snack after you are finished with a specific assignment.

Don't stop in the middle. You lose your train of thought, your level of concentration,

and your drive to be done!

  1. Don't be afraid to ask for help, but don't ask just because you are lazy! Learning how to figure something out yourself will mean that you've learned two lessons - most importantly, how to find out and learn something, and secondly, that learning something on your own stays with you longer than asking and getting ananswer.

  2. Find techniques for remembering difficult concepts. For instance, to spell separate correctly (which most people don't), remember that there is "a rat" in "separate". Or, the only way I can remember to put the e in ninety is to say "nine typewriters"! My best chance for spelling the day of the week named after the god Woden is to say "Wed - nes- day", otherwise, I am sure to leave out the d. Make up your own devices to remember difficult things. Are you good at writing songs or rhymes. Make some up to remember specific rules and information that you don't want to forget!

4. Take notes. This helps you concentration during class and during reading on

your own.

  1. Check your understanding of what you are studying by answering

questions or explaining the subject to someone else.

  2. Never answer the check ups at the end by just going back and looking for the answer. Always read the section first! It will help you remember the information for lots longer, and it will make sure that you

    understand what you are studying.

  3. Set yourself a time limit for each subject (never less than 20 minutes for a major subject - this includes written and study work) and try to get the work done in that amount of time. If you are taking much longer, check with the teacher to find out how to shorten the time.
