HOMEWORK HOW-TO AND SCHEDULE

This is not a set in stone schedule or even a how-to. Students need to set their own schedule and their own way to do things. If you have found a way that works for you and it is successful, go with it! But for those of you who are still a bit confused by what is due when, this may help. I surely hope so! Remember that the teacher and the students form a team - let's work together. Talk to the teacher if you still need more explanation.

RELIGION

Monday : Write the Bible verse. Study your notes.  Do any reading assigned.

  Study key words and ideas

Tuesday: Begin to memorize the Bible verse. Study your notes.  Do any reading assigned.

Wednesday:   Review notes and study. Memorize Bible verse.  Don’t forget to include the book, chapter and verse.

Thursday: Study for test

Friday: Review notes.  Work on any assigned projects

REMEMBER: if you pay attention and take notes in class, you may only have to review your notes and study. Don't forget the Bible Verse!

SPELLING

Monday:   Write the list words neatly and carefully two times each on looseleaf saying the letters aloud as you write.  This counts for

handwriting. Study any missed words from the check test.

Tuesday   Write ten of the difficult other forms on looseleaf

Study the rule and its exceptions. Study other forms.

Wednesday: As above, write the challenge words and the demons on the handwriting

paper.  Study the rule and the spelling of the challenge and demon words.

Thursday: Study all words and the rule for test. Review past rules.

Friday: Preview next week's lesson. Get ahead if you wish. Review missed

words in the last lessons.

Tuesday: Make new flash cards and study all flash cards made so far.

Wednesday: Same as Tuesday.

Thursday Same as Wednesday.

Week 2:

We will go back to the review units after we have completed the 15 regular units. Carry your flash cards with you and study whenever you have the opportunity. Try to use the words in your speech and in your writing. Using them helps you own them!

SCIENCE

  1. Read the assigned pages and take notes in a question/answer format in your

notebook.

  1. Write all assigned check ups and Chapter Reviews on looseleaf.  Be sure to mark the page number and chapter.

Procedure

Observation - what do you see

Conclusion - why do you think this occurred

4. Make flashcards for all terms, etc.

5. Spend at least 10 minutes reviewing from notes and flashcards each night.

6. Work on projects a little at a time. Set a schedule for yourself and stick to it.

7.Try experiments at home. Show us what you've done the next day in school if you wish.

ENGLISH

  1. Read chapters as assigned. Take notes using the question/answer method. Be

sure to read all print, not just the bold or colored.

  1. Do the exercises after taking the notes on that section. This will let you see if you

really understand what you read and noted.

     3.   Do the notes in the front of the notebook and the exercises in the back (or in the book, if you own it)

     4.  Be sure to mark the pages with the chapter and page numbers.

  1. Write down any questions you may have to ask the next day. DON'T trust yourself to "remember!"

      6. Review your notes regularly.

      7. Ask for help after school if you begin to have trouble.

NOTE: There will be OPEN NOTEBOOK quizzes each week, so take good notes!

COMPOSITION

1. Use the 20 minutes a day approach - spend a full 20 minutes (see handout).

2. Bring your folder and work to class everyday for stamping.

3. Be sure your work is neat and legible.

4. In the upper right hand corner include your name, grade, and date

5.Hand in all work in this order: final draft on top, revised copies, organization, brainstorming.

6.The first five minutes of the 20 minute time can be journal time; the purpose of a writer's journal is to warm up your creativity and writing aspects of the brain. Try it!

7.  Follow the rules for process writing

HISTORY and MATH can use the same basic approaches as above. Set yourself a schedule and stick to it! Being a good student has nothing to do with intelligence. The best students are the hard workers! Just do your best (and be honest with yourself about what is the best!)
